Volunteers in Police Services (VIP) Program
The City of Chandler Police Department is currently accepting applications for its Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program.

The mission of Chandler Police Department’s Volunteers in Policing program is to be a resource, provide support, and foster positive interactions for all citizens of Chandler and CPD Personnel. Our VIP's enhance the delivery of police services to the community at large, as representatives of the Chandler Police Department.
Possible positions include:
Volunteers perform a variety of clerical and general service tasks assisting police support personnel in routine duties. Volunteers are assigned to any division within the Police Department in need of assistance. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with computer systems needed. Ability to work on location at one of the Police Stations.
Volunteers are uniformed civilians who are trained to provide assistance to motorists who have encountered vehicular problems. These volunteers drive police cars with "Volunteers In Policing" markings and utilize the same radios and in-car computers as Police Officers for communications and dispatching, while performing their duties on patrol. Motorist Assist volunteers may be called upon to assist patrol at vehicular accident scenes, perform traffic control or carry out other assigned duties for which they have been trained. Ability to stand for long periods, work collaboratively with officers, and take direction. May assist with DUI Task Force on as needed basis.
Telephone Warrant Compliance
Volunteers assist the Criminal Apprehension Unit by calling people with Chandler City Court warrants and directing them to take care of their warrants before CAU responds to the home to make an arrest. Ability to learn computer systems needed to access information. Consistent schedule needed from this volunteer to coordinate with the existing volunteer.
Property & Evidence
Volunteers support the function of P&E with tasks which may include filing, scanning of records, interpreting information from the records management system. They must be comfortable handling items that may be hazardous or unpleasant based upon the crime scene from which they were collected, and they must be available to work Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings.
Volunteers assist in the Victim Services Unit as crime victims work with law enforcement and victim advocates. They also conduct phone satisfaction surveys to assist in evaluating and improving services offered to victims of crime. To serve in this position, volunteers must be available M-F during business hours.
Volunteers assist with Senior Lock box program to maintain and verify accurate information, inspect and update lock boxes as needed. With certain qualifications, may assist with other Crime Prevention programs as needed.
Volunteers assist the Hiring Unit with paperwork, filing, updating social media, or graphic design projects.
Volunteers assist the training unit with filing, scanning, and the maintenance of training records of employees.
Volunteers may assist with tasks related to investigations based on volunteer applicant's previous work experience and qualifications, Unit requests, and with approval by Chain of Command.
*Must be 21 years of age
*Pass the required extensive background investigation, fingerprint clearance, and oral board interviews
*Must commit to serve 16 hours per month. Consideration for fewer hours may be taken on a case by case basis, departmental needs, and residency status.
