Prospective Chandler Police Officers must meet all of the following minimum requirements. Requirements are determined by the City of Chandler and the State of Arizona.
- Be a United States citizen
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be a high school graduate or have successfully completed a General Education Development (G.E.D.) examination
- Undergo a complete background investigation
- Undergo a medical examination
- Undergo a polygraph examination
- The individual has not been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Arizona
- The individual has not been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces
- The individual has not been previously denied certified status, have certified status revoked, or have current certified status suspended
- The individual has not been convicted of or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with a frequency within the past three years that indicates a disrespect for traffic laws or a disregard for the safety of other persons on the highway.
Marijuana Use
All forms of marijuana will be treated the same (such as: herbal, THC extract, hashish, marijuana wax, edibles)**
**Over the counter use of CBD products are not disqualifying
- The individual has not illegally possessed or used marijuana for any purpose within the past two years
Dangerous Drug, Hallucinogen, Narcotic Use
An example of a dangerous drugs is methamphetamine. Examples of a narcotic would be heroin, cocaine, fentanyl. Examples of a hallucinogen would be LSD, mushrooms, peyote, PCP, ecstasy.
- The individual has not illegally sold, produced, cultivated or transported for sale a dangerous drug, hallucinogens, or narcotic
- The individual has no more than one time use for all substances combined since turning 21
- The individual has not illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic for any purpose within the past seven years
- The individual has never illegally used a dangerous drug, hallucinogens, or narcotic, other than for experimentation, a total of five times for the combined use of any narcotic, dangerous drug, or hallucinogens (experimentation means: the action of trying or testing something without continuous use)
Steriod Use
The individual has not illegally used or possessed a steroid in the last three years prior to employment
Adderall & Prescription Drug Use
- The individual has not possessed or used Adderall except as prescribed by a physician in the last three years prior to employment
- The individual does not have a pattern of abuse of prescription medication
Lateral Officer Drug Related Disqualifiers
- The individual has not illegally used or possessed steroids as a peace officer
- The individual has not possessed or used Adderall except as prescribed by a physician
- The individual has never illegally possessed or used marijuana while employed or appointed as a peace officer
- The individual has never illegally used a dangerous drug, hallucinogens, narcotic while employed or appointed as a peace officer
**Over the counter use of CBD products are not disqualifying
The illegal use of marijuana, or a dangerous drug or narcotic is presumed not for experimentation if:
- The use of any dangerous drug or narcotic, in any combination exceeds a total of five times or exceeds one time since the age of 21 years.
Applicants must also meet prescribed vision, color vision, hearing and/or other Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board medical standards.
